Training Lately
I have been plugging away with my training! I am *just* starting to feel more like myself again, but with that comes the realization of how much work I have to do to get after my sub-3 goal at TCM! Mileage has been right around 50/week. This week is 52 with 2 days off, so…
29:25 8K!!!!
Wow — wouldn’t have guessed I could run sub 29:30, at all! I made a bet with Nate the night before: 15 minutes massage if I ran sub 30:00. His personal best is a 30:04, and my personal best before today was a 30:34. So, 29:59 seemed like a reasonable goal. My legs didn’t feel…
Vasaloppet
What a great event! I love the home-town feel of this race. The race didn’t go great for me. Nate told me to start farther up than I normally would (2 rows, he said). So that’s what I did. Except that still put me really far back after the gun… I don’t think it’s as…
Chicago – PHYSICAL PREP
Last, but certainly not least: the final physical preparations for Chicago marathon. *Strength Sessions – I’ve cut all of these out now except for an occasional light core workout. Instead, I spend a little more time after each run to stretch and roll. *Diet – Three weeks out, I cut out all alcohol, and two…
Motivation Monday – Chris Solinsky 10k American Record
I had to post this here this morning for Motivation Monday. Take a look at that finishing kick! Also, nothing like the excitement in the announcer’s voice to get you excited to train/race! (Having trouble embedding the link) Get out there and get after it today!
Do not eat a full meal and drink pop before a tempo workout!
I couldn’t resist though — I came home hungry & my husband had a wonderful meal (spaghetti!) cooked for me. I had way too much, but I had only eaten breakfast… so eating a full meal felt wonderful. Then, of course, I became really, really sleepy. Nothing like a big meal to do that to…
Great article! It was cold in 1983 and a little rainy – and I took fifth in my age class, though I hate cold races. There's a guy in Japan that last year ran a 2:08 and who works 40 hours per week. I remember when Derek Clayton was asked if his then 12 year-old record of 2:08 would ever be broken and he said, "Of course. But not by someone working full-time like I did." So far he's still the fastest – the Japanese guy missed his time by a few seconds.
