Marathon PR set at Grandma’s Marathon, June 2014
My most recent PRs
for everything were set earlier this year J [2014] I’m probably the most excited about that full marathon PR because it
was an incredible race and I’ve never ever ever felt that good during a
marathon before (and I had some awesome in-race photos…I’m totally a pro).
Since Coach Nichole is all about “dreaming big”, what
would be your dream PR be, or one that you’ve been chasing for years.  Go big or go home!

I would love to run a
sub-3:00 marathon some day! In the near future, I’m looking to take down the
1:30 barrier in the half marathon this fall. I’m also hoping that 2015 will be
my lucky year and that the Saucony Hurricane team will pick me!
What keeps you going?
I was a slacker
runner in high school – definitely there to check out the guys on the soccer
team and hang out with my friends. In college, I was a middle-of-the-pack
runner. (I remember one of my college teammates getting so mad the first time I
beat her because I was ‘slow’. Well then.) Post-collegiately, I’ve found that I’m
pretty competitive, so I’m always motivated by chasing my PRs and searching for
my six-pack abs. Shalene Flanagan and Deena Kastor are two runners that I
admire; I try to channel my inner Shalene or Deena when things get hard.
Thinking about BEAST MODE helps too J
Favorite race distance:

I really love the
half marathon. You can walk normally just a day or two later, you need speed
AND strength, and you can probably rock a goofy costume for the entire distance
without the awkward chafing that a marathon presents. No arm burn or post-race
puking like the mile, and it’s something you have to train for to do really
well.

Why did you start working with Nichole/TNC?
I trained myself
through two marathons and was terrified the entire time that I was going to
break my legs or crash and burn on the course, so when I stumbled across
Nichole’s log, it was perfect! I was afraid she was going to tell me that I was
too slow (or too far away from Minnesota), but she didn’t J
I love not having to focus on what I’m running; I just look at my plan and go
and do it. It’s also great to have a cheerleader (and pep squad when I travel
up north) and someone who believes I can do just about anything. And I’ve made
some incredible friends, so that’s a big perk too!
Who are you outside of running? Hobbies? Other fun info?
Currently I’m
finishing up my PhD in Mechanical Engineering, so that means lots of free time
spent in the lab or working on my dissertation. I love trying new recipes,
working on crafty projects, enjoying all the fun restaurants and shops in
Lafayette, and cheering on the Boilermakers! Mannie (my cat) prefers it when I
read and take naps (which I do occasionally).
What would you do if you had an unscheduled day of vacation?
Oooo, vacation! I
would probably spend it cleaning my apartment (totally lamesauce). Hrm, what if
I say that I’d find a huge TV, a super comfy couch, and binge watch 30 Rock,
Firefly, Pretty Little Liars, and Orange is the New Black. With snacks…tons of
snacks. And chocolate.
Do you have a favorite shoe brand, model?
Oh shoes. I work at a
Fleet Feet Store in town, so I have too many pairs. I love my Brooks Ghosts and
New Balance 890s. The Ghosts have been perennial favorites (except for the 5’s)
and the 890s have been through two marathons with me now. I feel so FAST and
they both come in crazy colors J
Have any social media sights we can check out?

I’m on Facebook,
Google+, and Pinterest (with my real name) in addition to Instagram
(sharonsnyder87) and Snapchat (lizruns262). I also have a blog!
(imsharona.blogspot.com) No Twitter yet…maybe I need to add that to my social
media stash as well?

Favorite post workout food?
I love Nutella.
Waffles + peanut butter + Nutella + strawberries/raspberries; also: chocolate
milk, grilled cheese sandwiches, almost frozen Gatorade, and chocolate animal
crackers + peanut butter
Last, any fun facts about yourself? Special talent, or travel experiences?
I was also a music
performance major for my first year of college! I can play too many
instruments, but these days, it’s mainly flute, bassoon, and piano. I also
enjoy a nice side income from filling in for church organists. I’ve traveled to
Lisbon, Portugal and Heidelberg, Germany for grad school conferences and
absolutely LOVED it. I can’t wait to travel abroad again! Until that day comes,
I love to plan out road trips across the US and dream of how I’d spend a month
at lots of National Parks.
I also take my cat for
walks J
